Merchants Thanksgiving Might Just Save The Day
My husband and I got a wild hair and decided to host Thanksgiving this year. “Why not?” I said, when we suggested the idea to my parents. A recently-wed couple, we now have an abundance of platters, champagne flutes, placemats, and candle sticks...so why not put them all to use? My mom and dad usually host our crew of roughly ten to thirteen people every year, but since the 2018 Thanksgiving flock dwindled down to seven or eight, we Adams are taking a stab at hosting what is hands-down our favorite holiday. And frankly? We think we’re gonna kill it.
But. Of course...there is a chance that we screw everything up. (Knock on wood.) There is a possibility that the turkey will come out overcooked, and dry, and without any juicy renderings with which we could even begin to make a gravy. Heck, my pumpkin pie might not look at all like the recipe after which I’m modeling it, forcing me to present my guests with a dessert embellished by a giant crack or a major sinkhole. And you know, I have seen Instagram videos of casserole dishes spontaneously combusting upon removing them from the oven — shattering into a billion pieces and causing a major kitchen meltdown. (Can we knock on wood again?)
Still though, I feel confident. And why? Because I’ve got a backup plan.
If everything does go to shit, I know where we can go to get our fill of Thanksgiving without the stress or worry: we’re heading to Merchants. Merchants restaurant will be open all day, from 11am to 11pm, serving both locals and out-of-towners alike. The second floor steakhouse is offering a special, three-course Thanksgiving Day menu which has all of the traditional fixings, and the first floor Bistro at Merchants will offer a special Thanksgiving plate to go alongside the regular menu. So whether I’m totally over the Thanksgiving fare and want to drown my sorrows in a cheeseburger, or still feel the need to fill my Thanksgiving void with all the same things I attempted to create at home, Merchants will have my back.
Merchants does still have a few reservations available, should you want to forgo the production of cooking (and hopefully not ruining) Thanksgiving altogether, but if you find yourself in a pickle, walk-ins will be welcomed too.
