Bastion Restaurant Goes Rogue: Bastion Wine Bar
This Saturday, Bastion will be straying from its regularly scheduled programming (ahem, service) for a new kind of experience. While Josh and Baxter, our resident kitchen wizards, are away at Nuit Belge, Adam and Alex will be turning Bastion restaurant into Bastion Wine Bar for the evening. Adam (Bastion’s GM and former beverage director of The Catbird Seat) and Alex (Bastion’s sommelier and wine director) are taking over the restaurant for a first-come, first-served style evening with featured fortified flights, mystery glasses, discounted wines, and shared bottles...with strangers.
Now, one may be asking: “How might I share a bottle with a stranger?!”. We were definitely curious. So, we went to the experts. Say, for instance, you see a bottle of wine on the list that you want to order...but perhaps you don’t want to fully commit to the whole thing. No problem-o! Just let Adam or Alex know and they’ll write your name alongside the name of the bottle on a chalkboard. That’s when the timer starts. There are now 30 minutes in which a fellow Bastion Wine Bar guest has to take you up on your bottle - should the time run out, you’re simply out of luck and will have to take an alternative route. BUT, should someone be willing, you are now the proud (shared) owner of a bottle of wine...with a complete stranger - commitment level: minimal. Pretty cool, huh? We’re all here to make friends, after all, aren’t we?
And don’t worry -- even though we mentioned that Josh (Habiger, Executive Chef) and Brian (Baxter, Chef De Cuisine) will be away, the rest of the kitchen won’t be. They’ll still be in the kitchen, preparing a special menu of small plates to enjoy alongside the wine.
