Join Us! For Yoga at The Ranch
It’s been about 6 months since I officially committed to donning my helmet and riding with Team Food & Wine (alongside my friends and colleagues, Jordan Farrell and Julia Sullivan!) in this spring’s Chefs Cycle for No Kid Hungry. And although I didn’t really start training for the 300-mile ride until about a month and a half ago, it’s been on my mind ever since I signed on the proverbial dotted line. Sure, I’m an active person by nature, but I was still apprehensive about the rigors of training and quite frankly, the physical fatigue that I was certain would accompany my new hobby.
Because I moonlight as a yoga teacher (surprise!), I knew that keeping up with my regular yoga practice — in addition to the increased time I’d be spending on my bike — would be paramount to avoiding the stiffness and cramping that often follows time spent hunched over the handlebars. Giving my body dedicated time to breathe, and move, and stretch out my muscles means my recovery has been accelerated, and the fatigue about which I was initially so apprehensive hasn’t been much of an issue. [Plus, it gives me a bit of mental sanity, and that, my friends, is priceless.]
With the immense benefits that yoga boasts for both cyclists and for all humans everywhere, incorporating a yoga fundraiser into our Friends with Benefits series was a real no-brainer. (Especially when we have a teacher on board who’s willing teach the class for free: ME!)
In partnership with Jackalope Brewing Company and Henrietta Red, Yoga at The Ranch is our inaugural fitness-focused affair in our Friends with Benefits series. Join us this Sunday, March 10th at 12 in the afternoon for a sixty minute vinyasa yoga class led by Maddie Adams (okay, that’s me!) of Shakti Power Yoga and Inner Light Yoga. Class will be held inside the event space at Jackalope’s Wedgewood Houston taproom, The Ranch.
Yogis of all ability levels are welcome to sweat, stretch, and savasana — and then enjoy a well-deserved beer after! Entry to class is $25* and includes a sixty-minute sweat-and-stretch sesh, followed by a nice, cold beer from Jackalope. All event proceeds go towards Chefs Cycle for No Kid Hungry.
Pre-registration is not required for this event. Simply show up with your own mat, a water bottle, and $25*
