Bastion's Hip Hop Karaoke Will Make You Feel All The Feels
“Something to Talk About” by Bonnie Raitt
“The Sign” by Ace of Base
“It Was Always You” by Maroon 5
What do all these songs have in common? They’re just a few of the many tunes that make up my “Songs I Can SLAY At Karaoke” list, which is saved in my phone and held near and dear to my heart.
A list that’s consistently being edited, updated, tweaked, and perfected, my karaoke list is one I’ve had going for quite some time now...and one to which I’ll be making some serious additions before Sunday night. Why, do you ask? Because Hip Hop Karaoke is back at Bastion (...and I don’t have a single hip hop tune on my list!!!)
After a knock-out inaugural affair in early May, Hip Hop Karaoke is making an encore appearance this Sunday night with promises to crank up both the good tunes and the good times — but only of the hip hop persuasion. Between 7 and 10pm, the vinyl records for which Bastion is known will take a hiatus and, in their absence, the sound of regular Joe’s like you and me will fill the room. From classic 90’s hip hop to the littest sounds of today and tomorrow, the song you choose to perform is totally free reign — just as long as it fits the theme.
Last month, Bastion’s hip-hop wannabes rapped with Tupac, grooved with Outkast, sizzled with Lauren Hill, and went sliiightly overboard with the abundance of Eminem. But in the end, the night was capped off with a Beyoncé dance party that gave us every. single. feel. Needless to say, we’re psyched to get after it again this Sunday, June 2nd.
Neither RSVP’s nor ticket purchases are necessary to gain entrance to the festivities, but being 21 or older is. The only other requirement? That you know your song (or at least have the lyrics tee’d up on the ol’ iPhone). Lyrics display isn’t a sure thing at this event, so do your homework, practice in front of the mirror, and we’ll look forward to catching your A-Game on Sunday night.
Look. If you had. One shot. Or one opportunity. To seize everything you ever wanted. In one moment. Would you capture it? Or just let it slip?
YO! His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy. There’s vomit on his sweater already, mom’s spaghetti….
I think I know what song to add to my list.
