Weekly Top 5: Favorite Weekly Top Fives!!
It’s safe to say that when we started this new endeavor called Broad Varieties (one year ago!), we had a lot of emotions walking into it: a whole lot of excitement and certainly quite a bit of nerves. We wanted to create a platform that would be valuable, entertaining, and honest. We decided that a Weekly Top Five would be something to which we could commit every week and also something our readers could always count on. We also learned that sharing can be tough (!) and vulnerable, and to be honest, that’s what often kept us up at night in preparation for the big launch.
Creative, leisurely writing can expose a lot about a person, and it takes a certain level of bravery to confidently tread that water. We hope that over the past year, as we have shared ourselves with you, you have found some nuggets worth holding on to. In honor of the one year anniversary of Broad Varieties, we’ve selected five of our favorite WTF’s from the past twelve months — and we would love to hear if you have any favorites as well!
1. Weekly Top Five: Tips For Your Spring Garden
Jordan | Creating and maintaining an herb garden was a major goal I set for myself in 2018. And in August, I very excitedly met that goal with the construction of my very first herb garden (thank you Sara Gasbarra!!) This spring was my first opportunity to bring my garden back to life from the early winter Nashville was #blessed with — and it’s returned in full force! It’s not too late to re-invigorate (or create) your own, and you can do so by following the steps outlined in my WTF.
2. Weekly Top Five: Travel Abroad Checklist
Maddie | . Although it feels like ages ago now that my husband and I left for our honeymoon in Peru, the fact of the matter is that only about five months have passed since we packed our bags and headed south. We were lucky to have an almost-perfect vacation, with zero travel snafus, no serious health issues, and not a single panicked moment, and I think part of the reason it turned out that way was because we planned so thoroughly. With the abundance of travel that oft occurs during summertime, my Travel Abroad Checklist might come in handy, whether you’re traveling stateside or heading overseas.
3. Weekly Top Five: Keeping Your Immune System in Check
Tara - I am a relatively healthy person, but basically from October through March I was sick. It was a ROUGH winter for me from a health perspective, because I constantly felt tired and run down, sluggish, and honestly in a lot of pain from a sinus infection that just would not leave me alone! I loved my colleague Juliann’s WTF about keeping your immune system in check, because it gave me some new ideas to try (and believe me, I needed them!) and I felt they were pretty easy to implement into my lifestyle, which is always a plus. This year I’m going to start all these immune-building tricks in August in hopes faring a bit better this winter!
4. Weekly Top Five: Tunes I’m Singing With The Window Rolled Down
Maddie - Although this Weekly Top Five is about two and a half months old, I’m still one thousand percent digging all five of the songs I listed as appropriate tunes to sing in the car at the top of your lungs. Heck! If I had to guess, they’ll probably all wind up in my “Your Top Songs 2019” playlist that Spotify creates every year, come December. With the uncharacteristically dry, cool-ish, and breezy weather we’ve had in Nashville over the past few days, I can’t think of a better time to roll down all the windows and crank up the stereo: sing it, sister! (or brother).
5. Weekly Top TEN: Top 10 Podcasts
Tara - This WTF is actually a WTT, and it’s almost a year old, but here’s why I love it - because I love podcasts. I can honestly even go as far as to say they have changed my life for the better. As a busy mom, I don’t have a lot of extra time to really dig into topics I’m interested in, and even keeping up with the news is nearly impossible. I feel I always have room for self-improvement but rarely have the time to invest in it. But the combination of podcasts and my airpods (!) has created so many opportunities for me to expand my knowledge base while I’m folding clothes, washing dishes or doing a million other mundane tasks. I can learn tremendous amounts about a topic all while watching my daughters gymnastics class and it’s a win-win for all of us! Podcasts are high on my list of favorite things.
