WTF July 12: Tara Tocco

WTF July 12: Tara Tocco

Hola amigos! In the past few weeks Maddie and Jordan have had their chance to tell you some of the things they are loving this summer, and now it’s my turn to tell you what has been making my sun-shiney days even brighter lately. So without further ado, I bring you my top 5 favorite things this summer!

Cutest teal egg cooker you ever did see!

Cutest teal egg cooker you ever did see!

1. Dash Deluxe Rapid Egg Cooker

In my house we keep hard boiled eggs stocked at all times. I love to eat them as a snack, or sometimes I just grab a couple of them for breakfast as I run out the door. My daughter, who shuns most meat, also loves them and I have to be sure she gets her protein. My son eats, well, everything, but the minute he sees his sister with an egg  he wants one too. Soooo, I was getting tired of boiling eggs all the time (and yes, I know you can buy them boiled but I feel a little uneasy about that!) so I finally broke down and bought the Dash Egg Cooker and it’s been so easy to use! I bought it in teal, so the color alone makes me happy, but now I can cook muchos huevos  all at once  and very easily. It also poaches and makes omelets, and it can be a steamer for other vegetables as well. Jackpot!

2.  Laneige Lip Mask

My birthday is at the beginning of summer and I was gifted this lip mask that is now the last thing I do every night before I turn the light off. Rich and creamy (but also not too rich and creamy) this lip mask has kept me well-hydrated and happy in the summer sun, which can be just as hard on your skin as the winter dryness. It’s actually light enough that you could use it all day long, but for now, I like it perched on my nightstand.

3.    My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman

Honest truth: I have loved David Letterman since I was a child. I remember sneakily watching Late Night when my parents did, hiding on the bottom of the stairs or pretending to be asleep on the couch. As I got older, I would do my best to catch Late Night with David Letterman whenever I could. So when he turned up on Netflix with a one hour show in which he interviews and spends time with different well-known celebrities, artists, and other personalities (“global figures” is what the show website calls his guests) I was into it. I don't get to watch television very often these days so I love to put on this show and spend an hour somewhat fascinated by not only Letterman but also the interviewee (think Kanye West, Barack Obama, Tiffany Haddish and Jonathan Van Ness, just to name a few). I always feel it’s an hour well-spent.

4.  Splash Pads

To all the splash pads in the area, I thank thee. You have given this momma a bit of a reprieve this summer, not having to worry about staring my children down to make sure neither of them drown. Both of my kids think splash pads are super fun and seem just as happy with a splash pad as a pool, and I find it less worrisome, so it’s a win-win. Our favorites are the one at Cumberland Park, or if you’re up for a drive or live south of town, the Williamson County Rec Center has a really fun one too! You can also buy one of your own from Amazon and just hook it up to the hose for at-home splashing!

5.    Art by Hillary Howorth

Sometimes worlds collide. I have been slowly redecorating my living room, and have been searching for needing a piece of art but couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for. Recently a friend told me that an acquaintance of ours had quit her job because she was following her dream of being an artist. I remember thinking, I had no idea she was an artist! Good for her! So I looked up her art and became just enamored with it. Hillary is a native to South Carolina but has been in Nashville since 2011, has three young boys (I tip my hat to her!),  and recently quit her day job to focus on her art -- and her boys. Her abstract art has subtle swirls of colors and patterns, utilizing texture and technique to make her pieces serene and lovely. Lo and behold, she had a piece that was perfect for me and I now have it hanging in my living room. But sure enough, I find myself continually going back to her Instagram thinking, what else can I have her create for me? Hillary does commissioned work as well as painting what’s in her heart, creating multiple sized pieces and even clutches, which are sure to be one of my next purchases!
