Weekly Top 5: Cocktails I'll Be Drinking in Two Hours

Ahhhhhh the sweet, sweet smell of FRRRRIIIIIDAYYYYY. The smallest barrier remains between you and the palpable  sense of freedom from obligation for a few lovely, albeit short, days. Nothing is better! And with that ring of 5:00pm, celebration is required, amirite? After all, you deserve to cheers yourself after all of your hard work and accomplishments over the past five days.

And this week’s WTF is all about how I can make getting that drink in your hand - - - ever so easy on you!  Check out my list below for my favorite Friday drinking holes.

Henrietta Red Happy Hour

Henrietta Red’s Happy Hour is my favorite in town. Not only do you get to delight yourself with $5 cava and $2 oysters from 5-6:30pm, 7 days a week - but they also offer a solid rotating happy hour special each and every day.  Tonight’s delight? A $5 seasonal cocktail. Count me in!

Chopper’s Mai Tai

It honestly feels like i’ve been waiting for Chopper to open for years (probably because I have!!).  And now that it’s “all systems go” (and the long lines since opening have slightly dissipated), I have a feeling this East Side haunt is going to become my new go-to for all things tiki.  From the seriously intricate interior detailing to the ever-so-gradually changing lights, this place is almost like an adult playground. And after pouring over a laptop for 5 straight days, it’s exactly the kind of escape I crave.  All of their drinks are magical, but my fave ATM is the Mai Tai. Or, if you’re feeling extra saucy, try their Robo Zombie. It’s sure to knock you right off your feet.

Bastion’s Punch of the Day

You know how when you were a kid and you’d watch the show Cheers and you could only imagine what it might be like to walk into a bar and have everyone know your name?  Well, Bastion turned that into a reality for me. The Wedgewood-Houston watering hole is almost like a second home - and their cocktails aren’t too bad either.  Their drink menu has a ton of heavy hitters right now (the Gizmo’s and Gadgets recently featured in Native is a treat) but my go-to is their punch on daily rotation.  Always refreshing, always delicious, always only $9. Go pro and pair it with their nachos, which we are very big fans of over here at BV.

Attaboy

Attaboy is one of my favorite bars in the country - - - and it actually JUST won Best American Cocktail Bar at Tales of the Cocktail’s Spirited Awards.  It originated in NYC and we’re lucky enough to have our very own location on the east side of town. My advice? Let your bartender take the reigns. Everyone they have on staff is an absolute pro and won’t steer you the wrong way.

A Martini at Bob’s Steak & Chop House

Last but certainly not least is a good ole fashioned martini at Bob’s Steak and Chop House. Bob’s is honestly one of my favorite spots downtown  and there’s nothing better (NOTHING better) than a cold, salty, refreshing martini at the end of a long, hard week - and it’s never more satisfying than at a steakhouse bar.  Pro move - go snag yourself one pre Preds game. You win.
